The visit to Bangladesh takes place on 18–21 March due to HRH Crown Princess Victoria’s role as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the global goals for sustainable development. Ulrika Modéer, Assistant Secretary-General at UNDP, also participates.
The purpose of the visit is to gain an insight into the development journey that Bangladesh has made. It is also an opportunity to study progress and continued challenges in the implementation of the global goals for sustainable development with a focus on climate, gender equality, the green and digital transition and the role of business.
– Sweden’s and Bangladesh’s partnership stretches back over 50 years and consists of long-term development cooperation and extensive trade exchange. Bangladesh has undergone an impressive development journey in recent years and is expected to transition from a low-income country to a middle-income country in 2026. Business, including Swedish companies, has an important role to play in promoting the green and digital transition, which makes important contributions to job creation and sustainable growth , says Aid and Foreign Trade Minister Johan Forssell.
On the agenda for the visit are meetings with government representatives, entrepreneurs, organizations and development partners, as well as participation in events about the role of business in promoting the green and digital transition. A series of field visits will be conducted where, among other things, climate adaptation, digitization and local solutions are in focus. Visits will also be made to the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, which today is the world’s largest refugee camp.
