Public transport in Hradec Králové, which has a population of 100,000, will be free for people with a driver’s license on Thursday, September 19. The city’s transport company will thereby join the European Car Free Day and the European Mobility Week. In the week from September 16 to 22, the city will be under the motto Hradec goes! hold a series of events to support sustainable transport. City Hall spokeswoman Kateřina Rohlíčková told ČTK. The main events of the mobility week will take place on September 19, namely Car Free Day and the Hradecky Picnic. The Tyl embankment between the Prague and Tyrš bridges will be transformed into a center of entertainment, education and sports. People will be able to try electric bikes, there will be music and sports performances. “The aim of the campaign is to increase citizens’ awareness of sustainable mobility, draw attention to problems in transport and look for solutions that are friendly to the climate and the environment,” said Mayor Pavlína Springerová (Hradecimal Democratic Club).

On the afternoon of Monday, September 16, the city police will prepare a program at the traffic playground in Třebš. On Tuesday afternoon, there will be a discussion on the topic of safe transport for children at ZŠ Josef Gočár. The town hall will present the planned changes to the area in front of selected schools in Hradec Králové. On Wednesday, the scooter rental company Kostka will prepare a program, which will rent scooters for free throughout the week. Hradec Králové presents itself as a city supporting alternative modes of transport. From 2022, it supports the operation of shared bikes with subsidies in the order of millions of crowns. Thanks to the subsidy, the first 15 minutes of cycling are free. The city is currently planning an investment of almost 23 million crowns to improve public transport and increase the safety of cyclists and pedestrians in the vicinity of the football arena that opened last year in the Malšovice district.
