Hradec hockey players Graeme McCormack, Kevin Klíma and Martin Štohanzl were tested positive for a banned substance by the Anti-Doping Committee of the Czech Republic. “We are therefore suspending their professional player contracts until the case is resolved,” Mountfield’s website reads.
The anti-doping tests took place on April 9 during the extraleague playoff series against Vítkovice. According to information from the newspaper Sport, the illegal substance was contained in a food supplement that was supposed to help the aforementioned players overcome the flu more quickly.
“These are substances belonging to the stimulants that support heart activity and the like. It’s not about drugs,” Martin Čížek, director of the Anti-Doping Committee, confirmed to ČTK.

The mentioned prohibited substance was not mentioned on the product packaging. “It was an unconscious and unintentional violation of the rules,” wrote Hradec Králové in a press statement.
“Nevertheless, the contract obliges the players to consult the club doctor about the composition of all medicines and dietary supplements before taking them, which happens regularly, but in this case it did not happen for an unknown reason. The mentioned players thus individually violated this rule,” explains the Hradec Klub club.
