In in a region with full employment such as Cotentin, companies have difficulty recruiting to meet their needs. Thursday, December 21, 2023, the second edition of the HR Meetings was held, organized by the Mef and the Cotentin Agglomeration, in the André-Michel lounge at the cross-Channel maritime station, in Cherbourg (Manche).
Businesses must adapt
Companies are also faced with a sociological modification which has accelerated profoundly since the Covid crisis. “With a third of employees demotivated and a 24% increase in resignations, it is essential to question new methods of organization that meet the needs of employees,” estimates the Mef (Maison de l’emploi et de la formation ) from Cotentin.
This is why, since 2022, this organization has organized the “Rencontres RH”, in collaboration with the Cotentin Agglomeration. The first edition had the theme “ How to attract your talents ».
You were then 80 people. There were numerous discussions and the satisfaction rate was 100%.
Catherine BihelPresident of the Mef du Cotentin
Not less than 85 people, representatives of companies seeking to recruit but also to retain their employees, responded. The theme chosen this time was “ quality of life and working conditions as a lever of attractiveness ».
« Because we share this evidence », explained the president of the Mef du Cotentin, an actor who positions himself “as a facilitator” to support the development of businesses in our territory.
In fact, according to studies, the salary remains at 64% the main criterion of employees but well-being at work is in second position, at 47%, ahead of geographical location (31%) and atmosphere (25%), figures Catherine Bihel.
« 45% of stoppages are linked to unhappiness at work”, she adds. “Employees are half as sick and absent” when the atmosphere is good in a company. The framework is set.
Ten levers
Normandy business relations consultant from Apec (Association for the Employment of Executives), Delphine de Vendeuvre hit the nail on the head. The unemployment rate for executives is even lower: only 3.5%. Remuneration and development prospects are their primary criteria, but that’s not all. Nowadays, work-life balance is just as important for many employees.
Companies, even small businesses, have had to and have already been able to adapt by favoring part-time contracts and teleworking or by providing additional benefits such as a telephone and a vehicle.
They have no choice because they are not in a position of strength » on the job market. Even less in Cotentin where the unemployment rate is less than 5%which is considered full employment.
Delphine de Vendeuvre listed the ten levers for retaining executivesbut not only: think about the evolution of remuneration (savings plan or others); to favor professional development ; ensure the interest and renewal of missions ; be attentive to the workload and life balance.
But also maintain a good atmosphere work (afterworks, team lunches); leave autonomy In work ; offer the possibility to contribute to decisions ; testify to the reconnaissance ; take care of the working environment; develop the policy of social responsibility companies because it is a good way to promote the company externally but also internally.
Participants were then able to discover solutions offered by sixteen partners such as the Cotentin solidarity concierge service and the Pim Pam Pomme crèches.
Eighty-five people participated on Thursday, December 22, 2023 at the André-Michel show, located at the Cherbourg ferry terminal (Manche), in the 2nd edition of “Rencontres RH”.
