HPV Vaccinations Included in School Children Immunization Month Program by Tangerang City Government

TANGERANGNEWS.com-The Tangerang City Government (Pemkot) through the Health Service (Dinkes) has added the HPV vaccine to the ongoing School Children Immunization Month (BIAS) program.

This program was carried out with 39 puskesmas with a target of 15,039 students in 556 elementary schools (SD) in Tangerang City.

“Currently the BIAS program is underway with MR immunization or measles rubella and the HPV vaccine is also included for all grade V elementary school students or 11 years old. Whether it’s public, private, MI or Special Needs Schools (SKH),” said dr. Dini Anggraeni, Head of the Tangerang City Health Office, Wednesday 9 August 2023.

dr Dini, stated that this program is one of the commitments of the Tangerang City Government to reduce morbidity and mortality from cervical cancer by introducing new vaccines, namely and HPV in BIAS activities.

Every grade 5 or 11 year old girl has the right to receive HPV immunization services which are useful for preventing cervical cancer.

“Cervical cancer can be prevented, one of which is by administering human papillomavirus (HPV) immunization, mainly given to children. Therefore, the Tangerang City Government fully supports the implementation of the introduction of HPV immunization from the Ministry of Health,” he said.

In carrying out HPV immunization, the targets that must be reached are not only grade 5 girls in formal schools, but also in non-formal schools.

For targets who are not in school, immunization can be carried out at youth posyandu, puskesmas and other health service facilities.

“Immunization can also be carried out in places where children who are not in school congregate, such as shelters for street children, orphanages or children’s social welfare institutions, child detention centers or special child development institutions, non-formal schools and others,” explained Dr. Dini.

For information, HPV immunization is given in two doses with an interval of 12 months or at least 6 months. The first dose in girls aged 5th grade SD / MI or equivalent. Then, the second dose in girls aged 6th grade SD / MI or equivalent.
