GGD IJsselland will start vaccination at the beginning of March
In addition to girls, boys can now also be vaccinated against the HPV virus. Because the vaccine works best before someone comes into contact with the virus, the vaccination age will be lowered from 13 to 10 years. In mid-February, the first young people in the IJsselland region will receive an invitation from the RIVM for the vaccination. GGD IJsselland will start giving the vaccinations at the beginning of March.
HPV virus
HPV is a virus; the human papilloma virus. You usually don’t notice the virus, but it is very contagious. An HPV infection can cause cancer of the cervix and penis, for example. Eight out of ten people will become infected with HPV at one or more times in their lives. Fortunately, your body usually clears the virus on its own. In some people this does not happen, then cancer can develop 10 to 15 years later. In the Netherlands, an average of 1,100 women and 400 men are diagnosed with HPV each year.
HPV vaccination
The HPV vaccine protects against six types of HPV cancer. Both boys and girls receive an invitation to the HPV vaccination the year they turn ten. In addition, in 2022 and 2023, all twelve to eighteen-year-old boys and girls who have not yet been vaccinated against HPV will receive an invitation for a vaccination. Boys and girls up to the age of 14 receive two vaccinations. Six months after the first vaccination, they receive an invitation for the second vaccination. Young people from 15 years old need three injections for good protection.

HPV vaccination and corona vaccination
Do you have an invitation for the HPV vaccination and are you also vaccinated against corona? Then it is important that there is at least 14 days between the corona vaccination and HPV vaccination.
