The vaccination campaign against Human Papillomavirus (HPV), of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Guanajuato, is aimed at girls who are in the fifth and sixth grades of primary school and first year of secondary school; as well as 11, 12 and 13 years old not enrolled in the national educational system, in addition to vaccination in cisgender and transgender women between 11 and 49 years old who live with HIV.
“HPV genotypes are classified as having low or high risk of causing cancer. 16 types of HPV have been characterized as high risk for cervical cancer, with types 16 and 18 responsible for approximately 70% of all cervical neoplasms and therefore it is important to protect our women,” commented Irma Ponce Trujillo, coordinator of Public Health Nursing, IMSS in Guanajuato.

He indicated that in this campaign, in which just over 29 thousand doses have been administered, out of the goal of 61 thousand, which represents an advance of 49.9%, girls who are lagging behind are also being vaccinated, that is, they are currently They are in the second and third grade of secondary school or 14 and 15 years old out of school, as long as they have not received at least one dose of HPV vaccine in previous years.
He highlighted that these actions are carried out to contribute to the reduction of the incidence of HPV infection in women, through the vaccination strategy prior to the start of active sexual life and the aim is to apply 61 thousand doses.

Ponce Trujillo reported that the application of the vaccine is carried out in previously agreed upon primary and secondary schools, as well as in vaccination modules in all the Family Medicine Units of the Institute, for the application of the vaccine in the target group during 8 a.m. hours. :00 to 20:00 hours from Monday to Friday.
