Jakarta, 16 November 2023
The Ministry of Health and the Advanced Indonesian Cabinet Era Solidarity Action Organization (OASE KIM) Sector 2 held HPV immunization for children entitled “Make Indonesian Children Healthy with HPV Immunization”, in the courtyard of the Sujudi Building, Ministry of Health, Thursday (16/11).
This activity was attended by around 193 children consisting of 167 children in grades 5 and 6 of elementary school or equivalent from schools in DKI, 3 children with disabilities aged 11 and 12 years, 10 street children aged 11 and 12 years and 13 children from fishing villages who were not in school.
Held in order to support the increase in HPV immunization coverage which was launched in August 2023 to prevent cervical cancer from an early age.
“Today, together with mothers, we are implementing HPV immunization for children in grades 5 and 6 of elementary school as a step to help make Indonesian girls healthy so they can avoid cervical cancer,” said Mrs. Ida Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
Mrs. Ida explained that the provision of HPV immunization was a follow-up to the direction of First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo some time ago who encouraged the provision of HPV immunization to be accelerated and expanded, not only in big cities but must be ensured evenly distributed to remote areas of the country.
“This is the First Lady’s direction to carry out HPV immunization not only in Jakarta, because every month there are visits to other areas, hopefully other areas and those in remote areas will get the same HPV immunization as Jakarta,” said Mrs. Ida.
The expansion of immunization, continued Mrs. Ida, must also ensure that the target of HPV immunization is not only focused on children who are in school but also children who are not in school, including children with disabilities and street children. In this way, all children who are targeted recipients of the HPV immunization program will ensure that children between the ages of 11 and 12 years have the same access to the HPV immunization schedule.
Minister of Health Budi G. Sadikin, who was also present at this activity, said that since it was launched last August, the provision of HPV immunization for girls has been targeted at around 3 million Indonesian children. To make this happen, the government cannot work alone, it needs support from various parties so that this target can be achieved.
For this reason, the Minister of Health said he was happy and appreciated the steps taken by OASE KIM Sector 2 which has supported the government in increasing and expanding the provision of HPV immunization to children. According to him, this support is very important to accelerate the target of HPV immunization coverage in Indonesia.
“Our target (HPV immunization) is around 3 million who are 11 and 12 years old, and this age should not only be those who are in school, but also those who are not in school or who do not have the opportunity to go to school, that is what needs to be pursued. “In the future, there will be more and more organizations that help find young girls aged 11-12, whether in school, not in school, or with disabilities, to be invited for immunization,” said the Minister of Health.
On this occasion, the Chairperson of OASE KİM Field 2 Mrs. Kartika Basuki Hadimuljono together with Mrs. Suryan Widati Muhadjir Effendy and Mrs. Ida Budi Gunadi Sadikin also gave a quiz to the children who came. The questions asked were about immunization for school children. Children who successfully answer will receive a bicycle prize. The children looked enthusiastic in waiting and responding to the questions given. Until finally 3 winners managed to answer correctly.
Apart from the quiz, the provision of HPV immunization was also enlivened by a painting activity which was attended by all the children including the OASE KIM Sector 2 mothers. There was also a mbok jamu stand around the immunization implementation.
