HP Launches All-In Subscription Service for Printers with Ink Included – Is It Worth It?

Company HP has been providing the HP Plus service, which is an ink subscription, for some time. This was also met with a negative response from the IITC organization, which considered something like this to be environmentally problematic due to the need to use only original refills. Now here (in the US for now) we have a new form All-In subscription, which hides not only refills, but also the printer in the regular monthly fees. It’s basically about operative leasing for the printer and its operation. This has many advantages for the customer, but of course also some limitations, as is already typical (and in principle also logical) with operational leasing.

Let’s get to the positive aspects first. You can choose from three printers, namely the HP Envy starting at $6.99/month, the HP Envy Inspire starting at $8.99/month. and HP OfficeJet Pro, which starts at $12.99 per month. In this amount, you pay for the printer and the inks for its operation. If the ink is running out, the printer will order it itself and take care of delivery the next day. In the event of a printer failure, the service also includes the fact that HP will replace it free of charge with a working piece. After two years, you can exchange your old printer for a newer model free of charge.

And now the “negatives”, which logically follow from the nature of operational leasing. It is clear that you commit to paying off the printer for a certain period of time, which affects the amount of the installment. In this case, the user has 30 days to withdraw from the service, otherwise the contract is concluded for 2 years. Similar to cars, you have limits on kilometers, here there are limits on printed pages, as the service also includes operational refills. And here it is quite strict. The above prices apply to the Light plan with only 20 printed pages per month. 50 pages per month (Occasional) adds $2 per month, 100 pages (Moderate) another $2. Envy Inspire also has a Frequent plan for 300 pages per month, which increases the fee by an additional $6 per month. OfficeJet Pro also has a Business plan for 700 pages per month, which increases the subscription by an additional $13. As a result, OfficeJet Pro in the most expensive configuration with Business costs USD 35.99 per month.

The good thing is that you can change the plan every month. Expect to pay a fee if you want to cancel your subscription. After 24 months it is zero, however between 12 and 24 months it is 60, 90 or 135 USD depending on the printer, in the case of less than 12 months it is double, i.e. 120, 180 or 270 USD. In case you need to print more pages than the plan allows, there is a charge of $1 for each set of 10-15 additional pages.
