“HP Emerges as Leader in Declining Chromebook Market: IDC Report”

International Data Corporation (IDC) has revealed its quarterly PC tracking report showing a 31% year-over-year decline in Chromebook shipments in the first quarter of 2023.

And in the Chromebook market, HP emerged as the leader, selling 1.1 million units with a market share of 27.8 percent. In addition, HP was the only manufacturer that experienced year-over-year growth in the first quarter of 2023. Last year, HP sold 0.8 million devices. unit, resulting in company growth of 35.5%.

Lenovo follows with 21.3% market share with sales of 0.8 million Chromebooks. The Acer Group ranked third with a market share of 21.2% and sales of 0.8 million devices. Dell ranked fourth with 12.9 percent market share and sold 0.5 million Chromebooks, Samsung ranked fifth with 7.8 percent market share with 0.3 million units, and the remaining companies sold 0.3 million Chromebooks with a market share of 9.0 percent.

According to the report, the Chromebook market is highly competitive, with many companies vying for the top spot, and HP has been successful due to the popularity of its models among consumers and educational institutions.

In early 2023, sales slowed due to economic uncertainty, and vendors responded by creating new models, including large screen distance learning and hybrid business cases. However, as some vendors had predicted, Chromebook shipments were up by the end of the quarter. Chrome OS licensing fees will increase in the second half of 2023 and submit applications accordingly.
