However, “Nord Pool” will not raise the electricity price cap

After the previous maximum price ceiling – 4,000 euros per MWh – was reached in the “Nord Pool” on August 17, according to the regulation approved by the European Commission (EC), five weeks after reaching the maximum, or on September 22, a new high the price should take effect.

However, “Nord Pool” announced that, after active consultations with responsible institutions, a way was found to freeze the price ceiling.

The Stock Exchange statement indicates that the European Union Agency for Energy Regulatory Cooperation (ACER) and the EC have received confirmation that the automatic increase of the maximum clearing price threshold is immediately suspended upon reaching of the previous roof.

The designated electricity market operators, in collaboration with the transmission system operators and ACER, elaborate changes to the agreed maximum and minimum clearing price methodology. Proposals from all operators will be sent to ACER this month, “Nord Pool” informed.

On 17 August, the current maximum price of € 4,000 per MWh in the Baltic tariff zone was reached on the “Nord Pool” power exchange.

After reaching such a price spike, regulators in the Baltic states analyze the factors why there are record electricity prices in the Baltic states and also talk about ways to avoid such a steep price increase in the future.
