From July 1, 2024, drivers of electric commercial vehicles will still need a truck driver’s license. This is what outgoing Minister Harbers of Infrastructure said announced. An exception or tolerance scheme currently applies to them.
The commercial vehicles are not trucks, but in terms of weight they fall into one categories. They weigh more than 3500 kilos. A truck driver’s license is required for this.
It is a setback for entrepreneurs and companies because it is expensive to obtain a truck driver’s license yourself or to pay for it for employees.
New cost item
Harbers finds it annoying that entrepreneurs who have invested in sustainable transport now have to deal with a new cost item. But he thinks it is undesirable to allow a legally vague situation to exist.
He also believes that, in view of road safety, it is right that drivers of heavier vehicles are additionally tested for driving skills.
