A doctor and epidemiologist, Professor Tim Spector, revealed that the breakfast he ate for 10 years made him gain 10 kilograms without knowing, according to what was published by the British Daily Record.
Speaking to celebrity diet expert Michael Moseley on his podcast on the BBC, Professor Spector confirmed that he had changed his morning routine after noticing a rise in blood sugar levels in the morning immediately after eating what he thought was a “healthy diet”. “.
Choose what works for your body
He also explained that eating foods such as toast, jam, a cup of tea, and a glass of orange juice made him gain weight, advising the need to review the nutrients in breakfast so that each person reaches what suits his body.
And Professor Spector recounted that breakfast was mostly a cup of tea with low-fat milk in it. and a glass of orange juice, toast and jam, indicating that he was selective for brown toast, as he did not know then that they were often dyed brown.

kilograms every year
He went on to say that he was eating what he was told at the time was a “healthy diet,” explaining that this diet had led to an increase in his weight by about a kilogram over the past ten years, as he gained about 10 kilograms during that time, and only when he used a blood glucose monitor. As he ate his breakfast, he discovered it had reached the normal range for diabetics, stressing that “there was a worrying sign that these carbohydrates and sugars weren’t really appropriate.”
Try different foods
Professor Spector explained that his wife’s blood sugar levels were reacting differently to the same breakfast, and from this standpoint, each person should experiment with different foods in order to choose what suits his body.
He said he now eats full-fat yogurt with nuts, seeds and berries and switches tea to coffee, which helps keep him feeling full until lunchtime.

He added that this is the reason behind his advice to try different food items, because for his case it was good to switch to a high-fat breakfast, which includes full-fat yogurt with some nuts and seeds and any kind of berries, either frozen or fresh depending on the season.
He’s also made the switch from tea to coffee, because he now knows it’s “good for gut microbes.”
Professor Spector concluded: “It made a drastic difference. I saw immediately that the change brought my sugar down. I wasn’t having a sugar spike. I also didn’t feel nearly as hungry at 11 o’clock while at work. I didn’t feel like I needed to eat a meal.” A light mid-morning like I used to and I was feeling better overall.”
