The Annual mileage has a major impact on the premium of car insurance. When taking out car insurance, customers indicate how many kilometers they expect to drive. The following applies: the greater the mileage, the higher the insurance premium because the risk of damage increases.
Due to increased home office, the average annual mileage of CHECK24 customers has recently declined. Last year they gave an annual mileage of
11,085 kilometers. That is two percent less than in 2021.
Many insurers reimburse excess premiums paid if you report the reduced mileage in good time before the end of the contract year. In the CHECK24 car insurance comparison, customers can find such tariffs with the filter “fair mileage regulation”.
“Three quarters of all tariffs at CHECK24 include the so-called fair mileage regulation without extra charge”says Michael Roloff, Managing Director of Motor Vehicle Insurance at CHECK24. “Consumers can use this to have overpaid contributions reimbursed if they have driven fewer kilometers in their car than originally stated.”
16 percent less contribution with an annual mileage of 12,000 km instead of 16,000 km
Consumers who drive 12,000 kilometers a year by car pay an average of 16.3 percent less for fully comprehensive insurance than customers who drive 16,000 kilometers.1
If you exceed the mileage, you must report it to the insurer
Drivers who have driven more kilometers than they indicated when concluding their insurance contract should report this to the insurer. If customers provide incorrect information, there may be a contractual penalty, reduction or even the rejection of insurance benefits.
