How will Elon Musk affect Trump’s second term?

The successful candidate, Donald Trump, warmly thanked the billionaire Elon Musk for his support, and not surprisingly, Trump was grateful that Musk did his best.

Musk spent at least $118 million on behalf of Trump and gave $1 million a day to supporters.

Musk also defended Trump and flooded his X platform with a barrage of pro-Trump posts and misinformation.

A person who says he voted for Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden is now appearing with Trump on election night, posting the phrase: “This is the future” along with a fire emoji.

But what does Trump’s victory mean for Musk?

Trump has said Musk will be an influential voice in his Cabinet, which is tasked with reducing the size of government by $2 trillion a year. But Trump says Musk will not serve as secretary in his administration.

The potential obstacle is that what would happen is a “clear conflict of interest. It’s getting a lot of federal contracts from the federal government,” said Hans Nichols, a reporter at Axios.

Musk’s companies, particularly SpaceX, received $3 billion in government contracts last year, according to a New York Times report.

But could Musk’s profits grow as a result of his association with Trump?

For Elon Musk, there are very clear political benefits if he gets into the administration.

Musk’s platform, X, could be the centerpiece of MAGA’s online movement.

Tesla also saw its stock price rise by nearly 15% after Trump’s victory, even though it did not make any deals with the government.

The two billionaires share similar views on immigration, deregulation, free speech, gun rights and conspiracy theories. But CNN media analyst Sarah Fisher noted that “they have a tendency to have very close relationships that go down very quickly. If for some reason one of them is more satisfied in the relationship than the other or if one is of them think they don’t get that much from the other,” then “I can see their egos struggling.”
