Some scientists investigating the origin of gold and other precious metals say that these substances came to Earth directly from space. According to a study conducted at the University of Bristol more than 10 years ago, the source of these substances is meteor showers 3.9 billion years ago. The starting point for the researchers is this: The Earth that formed 4.5 billion years ago was first a lava ball. As the ball cooled, heavy metals such as iron began to collect towards the core. Siderophile (i.e., iron-loving, iron-attracted) metals also approached the center for this reason. Since gold is a siderophilic metal, it went deep. Therefore, there should be no gold near the surface, but there is. “I wonder?” probability has been confirmed. The gold-rich meteorites that reached our planet as a result of meteor showers when the world was 650 million years old formed the basis of today’s gold deposits.
