Simone Biles debuted this Sunday (25) in the artistic gymnastics of Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The star and the US team began qualifying on the ground, proceeding to the jump, uneven bars and crossbar. The best performances of the Americana were in the jump and on the ground, finishing in first and second place in these devices, respectively, in subdivision 3 – in total, there are five subdivisions.
On the ground, Biles started well and made a good performance, with movements that were difficult to execute. She presented two jumps of her own, named Biles and Biles II. The gymnast’s only problem was when she lost her stride after a move and ended up stepping out of line on landing, being penalized 0.3 for the error. Even so, she was the best American on the ground, with a 14,133 note.
Then Biles set off for the jump. In the first, the American was high, but ended up landing with her foot out. The gymnast proved not to be satisfied with the way she competed. In the second, the arrival was almost spiked. Also, the difficulty of executing his jump was high, which earned him a good score. Biles finished with 15,183, the best score in the qualifying round.
The expectation for the device was that Simone Biles could do the Yurchenko with a double carp mortal, a move that the gymnast had presented during the US Classic and also in the podium training at the Olympics, which did not happen. It is considered the most difficult element of the female heel event. If the American does it during the Olympic Games, the move will be named Biles II in the scoring code.
The 24-year-old athlete’s third performance was on uneven bars. Even though it’s not her strong point, Biles got the best score in the United States so far, with 14,566. In the end, the gymnast was surpassed within the American team by Sunisa Lee, who made 15,200 and emerges as a strong candidate for the medal in the individual competition of the apparatus.
At the end of the qualifying, Biles finished with the eighth best score in the asymmetric. As four Russian Olympic Committee competitors finished among the eight, Simone finished her qualifier in sixth place on the apparatus.
Biles still performed on the crossbar, the only device that did not win at Rio-2016 (she was bronze). The star made a good performance but failed to touch down again. Even so, he won the note of 14,066, which had discounts for the completion. She got the sixth best grade of the night.
