How TSV Sulzfeld has reinvented itself

The young team turned an early deficit against Gaukönigshofen into a 4-1. Nevertheless, she will not rise. The development beyond the season is more important.

You should celebrate the festivals as they come, but what to do if Corona throws a spanner in the works? In June 2000 the footballers of TSV Sulzfeld had moved into the national league and had written club history. The club wanted to look back on this great moment? with a “Kommersabend in a small circle”, as sports director Benny Krumpholz says. With stories and anecdotes that remained in the collective memory of those involved, but which must sound like stories from another world to the ears of today’s generation of players, so far away, so far from reality. Today TSV Sulzfeld plays three floors lower in the district class. And even if that might be a descent from a sporting point of view? it is an asset to the identity and cohesion of the department.

The opponents no longer come from Coburg, Lichtenfels or Würzburg, but from Mainbernheim, Frickenhausen or ?? like last Saturday ?? from Gaukönigshofen. The stardust of the higher soccer galaxies, in which the Sulzfelder initially acted like inexperienced intruders, has long since faded ?? so much so that today’s players don’t even ask about it, as Krumpholz says.

From the heroic team from the turn of the millennium, only Sebastian Zobel remains, who lives two goalkeeper tees from the sports field. Coach Markus Wolf is also familiar with the regional league, but he only took part in the second Sulzfeld adventure in 2007. The national league is no longer a reference point that anyone in the club would focus on today. It was and is only an episode.

The turning point has brought about a change in culture. Today TSV Sulzfeld defines itself through its youth department, which is now set up so sustainably that the club doesn’t have to worry about the future. Despite Corona, all age groups except the U11 have independent teams this season. A success that is largely attributable to the long-time youth leader Charly Zehnder and the club’s chairman Bernd Hering.

Hering took part in the promotion to the national league as a player himself ?? and for a long time was the only real Sulzfelder in the team. That shouldn’t happen in the future. The new identity politics is ?? ?? you have to be so honest ??, says Krumpholz ?? also owed to market development. The club can no longer and does not want to invest money in an elitist top product, so it is investing it in a down-to-earth project that is slowly generating interest.

After three relegations within eight years, the club had to reinvent itself? and made a virtue of necessity. There are now 15 of their own in the first team, the next hopeful year is already behind in the U17. For the club this is a great opportunity with a comparatively small risk. Of course, the current year lacks experience, says Krumpholz. ?? You can read that off the table. ??

The self-imposed claim to play for promotion after third place in the previous season has not been fulfilled. No drama, but Krumpholz knows that in the medium term you have to play in the district league again in order to offer the talented youngsters something not only socially, but also athletically.

In the 4: 1 on Saturday against Gaukönigshofen, the young team at least indicated their potential. She combined nicely, created scoring opportunities and was relatively fearless from the early deficit. After less than five minutes, Micha Rienecker had already scored 0: 1 for the guests; Twenty minutes and two good opportunities later, Samba Jallow equalized with a well-placed shot. And Jallow, one of the few veterans in the team at the age of 32, also forced the penalty in the 70th minute, which he converted to 2-1 himself. The turning point in the game. Florian Ehrbar (80th) and Ibrima Saine (87th) later had more hits.

Once their game was on, you saw a team that can get intoxicated with itself. The Sulzfelder know that this vintage is capable of giving them a lot of joy once it has noticeably gained in maturity and depth. Seen in this way, the compulsory Corona break was not just a curse for the young players. “You had,” says sports director Krumpholz, “now half a year more to develop not only athletically.”
