How Trumf Members Saved Over NOK 1.5 Billion in Bonuses in 2023: Should You Withdraw the Money?

(The online newspaper): More than 2 million Trumf members saved just over NOK 1.5 billion in bonuses last year. They did this through shopping in Kiwi, Meny and the other chains in Norway’s largest grocery group, Norgesgruppen.

At the same time, it is worth noting that around 90,000 members have over NOK 10,000 in outstanding bonuses with the Norwegian Group’s bonus program Trumf.

If you do a rough calculation, this means that 900 million is distributed among 90,000 people.

Several members therefore have large bonuses lying on their account – but should you withdraw the money?

– Then they have been standing for far too long

Consumer economist at Nordea, Derya Incedursun, says that it entirely depends on how much you have in your Trumf account. If we are talking several thousand, however, she has no doubts about what you should do.

– Then they have been standing for far too long. It is good money to take out and invest in other things, so the money can grow. If you are afraid of risk, you can, for example, find a savings account with a good deposit rate, says Incedursun.

You do not get interest on the money in the Trumf account.

If you are willing to take risks, the consumer economist suggests putting the money in a mutual fund.

– We would like customers to take out their bonus and find good ways to spend the money. After all, it is the members’ money, and the more people who use the bonus, the more attractive the membership also appears, says communications manager at Norges Gruppen, Kine Søyland, to Nettavisen.

Clear call: Check the “forgotten accounts”

For smaller amounts, Incedursun’s tip is to let the money grow. On average, Trumf customers have NOK 656 in their Trumf balance.

Lene Drange, known from the TV program “Luksusfallen”, has previously encouraged to withdraw the money when there is around NOK 1,000 in the account.

In today’s expensive times with high interest rates, high inflation and high electricity bills, Incedursun asks people to check the “forgotten accounts”, such as the Trumf account.

– It can help pay unforeseen bills, the food budget and lighten the financial burden a little, says Incedursun.

In total, Norwegians have earned NOK 1.8 billion in Trumf bonuses. 1.5 billion was saved in 2023, while the remaining 300 million are outstanding amounts from previous years.

It is free to use Trumf, and members can withdraw the bonus whenever they wish.

– Are we too poor to use this money?

– Yes, it’s probably these accounts that you check at the very end, or don’t think about. This is money you have not actively placed there, which is easy to forget. It is a form of saving, says Incedursun.
