With the 93rd Oscars pushed back to April due to the pandemic, films through February 2021 were eligible for nomination. Another change is that films that debuted directly on streaming platforms were eligible for the Oscars.
There won’t be a live audience for this year’s Oscars, but Steven Soderbergh, who produces the awards, took the approach of treating the event like a movie instead of a TV show (via AP ):
“We will announce our intention immediately,” Soderbergh says. “Right out of the gate, people are going to say, ‘We have to put on our seat belts.'”
