The Masters of golf kicks off on April 7 at Augusta National Golf Club, and an invitation to the prestigious tournament at the Latin America Amateur Championship is on the line this week.
The event takes place starting Thursday at the Teeth of the Dog course in Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic, and awards the winner a spot in the first major of the season.
The 17-year-old Argentine Abel Gallegos won the Latin American Amateur Championship in 2020 by a four-shot advantage, signing a card of 67 (4 under par) in the last round. The event was not held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
In addition to qualifying for the Masters, the winner receives invitations to The Open and the US Amateur.
Previous winners include Chilean Joaquín Niemann and Mexican Alvaro Ortiz. Niemann has one win on the PGA Tour and Ortiz competes on the Korn Ferry Tour.
