BASILICATA ELECTIONS – RESULTS – REGIONAL SUMMARY
How to vote
Just as in Abruzzo, and unlike Sardinia, separate voting is not permitted in Basilicata. This means that the voter cannot vote for a candidate not connected to the list for which he decides to express his preference, and vice versa. You can therefore vote in three ways: by placing an or by crossing out both the list and the candidate, provided that the latter are part of the same party. The voter can express one or at most two preference votes, provided that gender equality is respected, under penalty of cancellation of the ballot.
The electoral law
The candidate who obtains the most votes wins. The regional council is made up of 21 seats, one of which is attributed by right to the elected governor. The remaining 20 seats are assigned based on the results obtained by the lists in the two constituencies: Potenza and Matera. The first (the largest) is entitled to 13 seats, the second 7. There is a majority bonus ranging from 50 to 60 percent of the seats based on the result of the winning governor. Furthermore, a threshold of 3 percent is foreseen for the lists running alone. The threshold is reset to zero for lists running in a coalition that obtains at least 8 percent of the votes. Otherwise (failure to reach 8 percent), the coalition list must obtain at least 4 percent.
Voting documents
In order to vote, voters must show up at their polling station with their voter card and identity document. The latter means the identity card or other identification document with a photograph and issued by a public administration, even if expired (not more than three years ago). Alternatively, an identification card issued by the National Union of Officers on Leave of Italy is also permitted, provided it has a photograph and validated by a military command, or an identification card issued by a professional association, which must also have a photograph. .
Renewal of electoral card
The electoral card, due to running out of space, can be renewed upon request from the voter concerned at the electoral office of the municipality of residence. It is advisable to go to the office in question in time in order to avoid a concentration of questions on the days of the vote or in those close to it. In any case, the electoral office will remain open from 9 am to 6 pm in the two days before the voting date and on voting days for the entire duration of the voting operations: from 7 am to 11 pm on Sunday 21 April and from 7am to 3pm on Monday 22 April.
