How to verify your Twitter account to get the blue check

The blue badge next to certain usernames on Twitter represents that the account is authentic and in the public interest. Verifying your account in this social network is not a very simple process, since it is not you who should do it. To achieve this, you will need to make an account verification request, but first make sure that you meet the following requirements:

  • Your account must be authentic, so you must confirm your identity if you want to obtain the verification.
  • Your account must represent to a recognized brand, person or entity. Twitter will verify the profile and add it to a certain category such as “Companies, brands and organizations”, “Entertainment”, “Government”, “Sports and games” etc …
  • Your account must be active and comply with the rules of the social network.

If you meet these questions and want to verify your account, access the section of “Settings and privacy” and select “Account settings”. Look for the option “Verification request” and choose the type of category that best suits your account. After this, the platform will ask you to verify your identity by email or through your ID. Now you just have to wait for Twitter to give you an answer. If yes, your account will be verified automatically, but if your request is denied, you will have to wait thirty days to try again.

Reasons why an account may not be verified

As mentioned, it can happen that an account meets all the conditions and is verified, but it can also happen that the verification is denied. Some of the reasons why an account would not be awarded the blue badge are:

  • Because it is a fictitious profile, comical or represents an unofficial fan account.
  • This is an account that violates spam policies of the platform or that incurs in the sale of followers.
  • It is an account that incites hatred or carry out an activity harmful to other users.
  • Does not meet any of the others Twitter rules.
