Meta has announced that you can now use your WhatsApp account on four smartphones simultaneously. We detail the procedure to follow.
If you are a follower of the excuse ” Ah sorry, I did not see your message I have more battery!“, know that you may have to review your strategy.
For the past few years, Meta has been striving to make WhatsApp work optimally on a multitude of devices. The web interface was the first to see the light of day, followed closely by the possibility of using an account on secondary devices.
Until now, WhatsApp only allowed you to use the same account on one main device, usually your smartphone, and up to four other linked devices (computer, tablet, etc.). This update has come in quite handy when the main device runs out of battery and you need to communicate with your family or friends.
From now on, you can add up to four smartphones to your WhatsApp account.
How to link several smartphones to your WhatsApp account?
To use WhatsApp on a new device, follow these steps:
- Install WhatsApp on the new device.
- When prompted, scan the QR code on your primary phone.
- On your primary phone, go to Settings > Connected Devices > Connect Device.
- Tap “Connect device”.
- Scan the QR code that appears on your new device.
- Once the devices are linked, you can use WhatsApp on both devices.
Each connected device now communicates with WhatsApp servers independently. This keeps all your conversations in sync. However, WhatsApp will automatically log you out of your other devices if your primary device is inactive for more than 14 days.
Meta assures users that end-to-end encryption remains intact regardless of the device used to access their account.
And bref:
- Your primary device is the device you first used to create your WhatsApp account.
- Your secondary devices are any other devices that you have linked to your WhatsApp account.
- When using WhatsApp on a secondary device, your messages and calls are always end-to-end encrypted.
- If your primary device is inactive for more than 14 days, WhatsApp will automatically log you out of your other devices.
- This new sync system is a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, even when you’re away from your primary device.
