How to use WhatsApp even though your cellphone doesn’t have internet

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Soon one WhatsApp account will be able to be used on several devices at once. Even WhatsApp can be used even when the smartphone is not connected to the internet or is dead because the battery runs out.

This is because WhatsApp will release the Multi-device feature. This feature is currently being tested in beta where only a few lucky users can try out this new feature.

Usually WhatsApp can operate when the main device, namely a smartphone, is on and connected to the internet. But later all devices that have been registered to run a WhatsApp account can send messages even if the smartphone is turned off.

“With this new capability, you can now use WhatsApp on your phone and up to 4 other non-phone devices at the same time, even if your phone’s battery dies,” said Facebook’s Engineering page.

Because it is still available for beta, users must first participate in the beta program in order to experience these features in WhatsApp.

In the Faq site, WhatsApp says the conditions of using the beta program. Namely users of WhatsApp applications and WhatsApp business Beta who use WhatsApp Beta both from Android and iPhone.

In addition, it can also be used by WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business users who use it in other countries.

In order to use it, also make sure that WhatsApp is in the latest version. Once they have joined the Multidevice beta, users must link the companion device.

On Android, the way to join the beta program is to open the app and press the Options menu or the three-dot icon. After that click the Linked Devices menu and press Multi-device Beta.

If you want to exit, repeat the above method until the Multi-device Beta, and continue by clicking Exit Beta.

Meanwhile, on iOS by going to settings and clicking Linked Devices and then clicking Multi-device beta. Next enter Join to Beta.

To exit, keep repeating that way and once in Multi-Device Beta press click Exit Beta.

Facebook also emphasized that it is still ensuring the security and privacy of users in this new feature. Namely through end-to-end encryption that has been used by the previous platform.

“Importantly we have developed new technology to maintain end-to-end encryption while still managing the synchronization of your data such as contact names, chat archives, starred messages and more across devices,” said Facebook.
