Back in January 2018, Instagram added the “last seen” feature to its platform. This feature, called Activity Status, allows all your followers (and anyone who messages you) to know when you were last active. You can also check when others last used this feature. It has been applied to the direct message section of the app where you chat with your followers. This privacy override feature is similar to those we’ve already seen on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, just under a new name. In a recent Instagram update, the company went one step further and added a dedicated section at the top that lists all your active Instagram followers. Still, there’s no need to panic as you can easily disable the feature to not let anyone or yourself know when someone was last active on Instagram. So here are the steps you need to follow to turn off activity status on Instagram.
Disable Activity Status on Instagram (2022)
1. To get you acquainted with the activity status feature first, so the tab “last active” and the tag under the user names of people you recently sent a message looks like this:
2. To turn off activity status on Instagram, open your Instagram profile, tap on the hamburger menu (icon with three horizontal lines) in the top right corner and Select “Settings”.

3. When the “Settings” page appears, go to the “Privacy” section and tap “Activity Status” to change the activity status of your Instagram account.

4. Well, Disable “Show activity status”, and you are ready. Other Instagram users can no longer see your online status. Keep in mind that if you turn off activity status, you won’t be able to see the last seen status of people you’re texting either.

5. As you can see in the picture below, The Online Now bar at the top is gone after disabling activity status. They also won’t use the “before” tag

Disabling the Activity Status feature on Instagram allows you to keep your business to yourself. It will help restore your privacy and keep all those nosy friends and relatives at bay. While the newly introduced Instagram polls and quick post sharing are useful, we don’t think adding a section to disclose your online status is unnecessary. What do you think about this update?
