How to treat diabetic wounds at Siloam Hospitals Balikpapan

In general, the appearance of wounds on the feet of diabetics is caused by the fact that both feet are often used for activities or movements. Impaired function due to peripheral nerve damage in diabetics causes a decrease in the loss of pain sensation in the feet, so that if a wound forms on the foot, it could potentially cause infections and get worse.

The basics of simple treatment for patients with diabetic wounds are cleaning the wound, then drying and moisturizing it, including routine nail care and cleaning, wearing footwear everywhere with socks and clothing that is not tight or tight.

As for the doctor’s advice, cover the wound with a bandage, check sugar levels and pay attention regularly if there are signs of infection, see a doctor immediately.

Arie Wibowo also explained the degree of injury on a scale of 0 to 5, namely:

Scale 0, the wound is not yet visible

Scale 1, the skin of the feet is reddish

Scale 2, the skin is not intact like red meat.

Scale 3, the skin of the feet is deeper or thicker, yellow adipose tissue is visible.

On a scale of 4, the deeper skin of the foot shows that the tendons are shiny white and the bones are cream.

On a scale of 5, which is the highest level of damage, the wound on the skin appears covered with dead tissue and even the appearance of pus covering the wound bed.

“The principle of prevention is better than cure applies especially to diabetes wounds,” Arie said.

The trick is to control blood sugar, manage stress in a balanced way, eat healthy foods and exercise regularly, including avoiding smoking and alcoholic beverages.
