ROVIGO – Obesity is now a very widespread problem: in the world there are one billion overnourished people compared to one million severely undernourished people.
In the Veneto region alone, a prevalence of obesity has been estimated at approximately 10% of the adult population and even higher data concern the child population.
A topic, therefore, increasingly relevant not only for the scientific community but also for public opinion, which will be addressed on October 16th at 5.45pm in the second meeting on the chronic management of obese patients which will take place in the Bellinazzi conference room of the City of Rovigo Nursing Home (Pederzoli Group).
The event is free, open to citizens, patients, general practitioners, expert specialists in the sector, nurses, various professionals such as nutritionists, dieticians, sports doctors, graduates in exercise sciences and psychologists.
“Finally, in July 2024, obesity, like epilepsy and endometriosis, was included among the new chronic diseases through the document “National Chronic Disease Plan” of the Ministry of Health – explains Dr. Michela Armigliato, endocrinologist and internist at the City of Rovigo nursing home and scientific director of the event –. Obesity is therefore a disease and as such must be prevented and, once it occurs, treated.”

I new drugs for the treatment of obesity available in Italy for a few months, they act in fact as if in a fascinating directed process, regulating the various defects of both.
Certain data demonstrate that the use of these drugs reduces the cardiovascular risk of the obese patient in a significant way with mechanisms that are not entirely clear and not solely deriving from the alone weight loss.
“Scientific progress has now given us important tools for the classification and staging of obesity – continues Armigliato – as well as intervention targets depending on the complications of the disease such as arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, the liver disease known as hepatosteatosis, ovarian polycystosis and related infertility problems, cardio-cerebrovascular complications, and – he states – respiratory complications including sleep apnea syndrome, weight-bearing joint pathologies, gastroesophageal reflux disease, urinary incontinence, some oncological pathologies and, last but not least, psychiatric problems that are often early and underestimated”.
The event will be opened by the CEO of the City of Rovigo Nursing Home, Stefano Mazzucatola dr.ssa Katia Montanari of the medical management and the president of the Rovigo Medical Association, Francesco Noce. He dr. Roberto Fabris will introduce the problem of obesity and will be followed by Dr Armed he will interact as a discussant with various medical specialists in the sector: the cardiologist Loris Roncongynecologists Cinzia Polo e Alice Bolognathe diabetologist Omar Ghirardellol’epatologo Giorgio Anastossopoulosthe cardiologist expert in sports medicine Mariapaola Galassothe nutritional biologist Silvia Dal Vecchiothe psychiatrist Natalia Magno e Tatiana Konecnageneral practitioner.
Many of these medical specialists work at the City of Rovigo Nursing Home (Pederzoli Group) and cooperate in the management of adult patients with chronic weight problems within a network that takes advantage of the various services made available by the facility.
