If Apple does not offer a native tool to migrate to other streaming services, there is one trick that allows you to transfer your Apple Music data. We explain the procedure to you.
Leaving one music streaming service for another can be an obstacle course in many ways. In addition to having to cancel your subscription with the old service, you are going to have to find a way to get your library and playlists back to the new service. If the task turns out to be rather difficult, especially in terms of compatibility between services, some tips still exist to facilitate the transition.
Despite its ever-growing success, Apple Music may see some of its users abandoning its service in favor of others, such as Deezer or Spotify. However, most of the different streaming services do not allow you to import or export its library. It is then necessary to go through third-party services, made essential by this lack of compatibility.
Surprisingly, Apple is one of the few to allow its users to export a playlist from Apple Music. The interest is obviously to allow subscribers to try out several services and therefore switch to the one that suits them best.
To export a playlist, select it in the left column of the Music app on Mac or iTunes on PC. In the menu bar, then press File, scroll down to Library and, in the pop-up window, click Export playlist. It is also possible to export your entire music library by clicking on Export library. However, this will not take into account the different playlists you have created.
The program will then open a recording window, offering you to save your playlist as a file. It will then be necessary to change the format of this one and to select XML. Then choose where to save it, then validate your choice.
You will then obtain a file in XML format, but which cannot be read by other services. Unfortunately, you will then have to go through a third-party service. There are then a multitude of websites allowing data to be transferred to another streaming service. In this case, we will use tunemymusic, which proposes to migrate to fifteen different streaming services, whether Spotify, Deezer or even Amazon Music.
When you are on the site, click Start Now. You will then be asked to choose the source platform. You can easily choose to transfer your data directly from Apple Music, but that would require authorizing the website to access your Apple account. This is why we will proceed from a file. So, select File in the grid presented to you.
The site will then ask you to choose a file, which can be of many formats, including XML. Then select the file previously created and validate your choice. You will then see the music present in the chosen playlist appear and will have the opportunity to select those that you do not want to transfer by clicking on the check mark next to said music. Then click on Select destination.
The same grid as seen previously will return, and you are free to select the destination service. A new window will open, asking you to connect to this service and allow the site to write data to it. After validating the operation, the site will run and transfer your data after a short load. You are free to repeat the operation for the other playlists that make up your music library.
