Even though the game is crawling up to 10 years old, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online are still boiling. New versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S will be released on Tuesday, and the developers at Rockstar have carved together a way to get his character transferred to the new editions.
To continue playing with your existing GTA Online character, you must migrate the character when you log in for the first time. You must use the same Rockstar Online Club account on the new and old console, and when you log in to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X you will be offered to move everything over.
If you have played GTA Online on multiple consoles, you must select the one you want to transfer. Note that you can not transfer your PC profile to the console, or vice versa.
If you transfer the profile from Xbox to PlayStation, or from PlayStation to Xbox, you will also lose all of the GTA Online money that you have purchased through microtransactions. To keep these funds, you must stay in the same console family.
Another thing to keep in mind is that migrating your profile from one console to another removes the profile from the old console. Thus, you are locked to the new platform, and since the consoles do not have cross-play, you should have a coast on where the rest of the group of friends play before you take the grip.
You can also transfer the progression from the single player section to the new platforms – once. This is also done via an upload and download in Rockstar Social Club.
