Often, when the battery of your gadget after charging (how to properly charge your smartphone, read here) drains quickly, we often hear advice to close background programs. Some say it saves battery life, increases phone performance and saves data. Others argue that no, background programs don’t take up enough of your phone’s resources to affect its performance. Both sides are right, according to the publication cnet.com.
While background apps may not use phone resources on their own, Android phones and iPhones periodically refresh background apps by default. This uses the phone’s battery power and data. While updating background apps doesn’t use up resources as much as screen brightness and mobile data, turning off app updates can help save battery and data for when you really need them. Low Power Mode for iPhone and Battery Saver Mode for Android phones also stop background apps from updating. But they also pause or change other settings, including screen refresh rate and device performance. These options will save your battery and data, but they result in more drastic changes than stopping background programs from updating.
