How to Send HD Quality Photos on WhatsApp: A Guide for Beta Testers

Send high quality photos via WhatsApp fairly easy. Fortunately, WhatsApp is now starting to roll out a feature that allows users to send HD quality photos.

With this new feature, users can send high-quality HD photos that maintain the dimensions and resolution. No longer need to send photos as documents for fear that the quality will decrease due to compression.

This new feature is available for beta testers who download WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.12.13 and WhatsApp beta for iOS version 23.11.0.76.

According to the screenshot uploaded by WABetaInfo, users who want to send HD quality photos must press the ‘HD’ button at the top of the screen next to the crop button. WABetaInfo says this option will only appear if the user selects a large photo.

WhatsApp provide standard quality option as default option for any photo. This means that users must choose the HD option if they want to send photos with better quality.

Photos sent in HD quality will be marked with an ‘HD’ icon on the photo so that the message recipient will understand that the photo was sent using this new feature.

However there are some things to note. WABetaInfo said this feature was not designed to send original quality photos. This feature can indeed maintain the dimensions of the photo, but WhatsApp still does light compression on the photo, as quoted from WABetaInfo, Thursday (8/6/2023).

This feature is also limited to photos shared in chats. This means that the option to send photos in HD quality is not available for statuses, and users still cannot send high-quality videos except as documents.

The option to send photos in HD quality has just become available to beta testers WhatsApp. It looks like this feature will be released to all users in the next few weeks.
