KOMPAS.com – The rare comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) or also called the Green Comet, which only passes once in a lifetime, will be seen at the closest distance to Earth tonight, Wednesday (1/2/2023).

The mention of once in a lifetime because of the time span of appearance comet ZTF far exceeds the average age of human life, which is 50,000 years.

BRIN Space Research Center researcher Andi Prince explained that comet C/2022 E3 or comet ZTF will pass and can be seen in Indonesia on February 1, 2023 starting at 18:30 local time.

The sighting of this rare comet will also continue until February 2, 2023 at 02.30 local time, depending on each time zone.

“The direction is north near the constellation Camelopardalis,” said Andi, when contacted Kompas.comWednesday (1/2/2023).

To be able to see comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) once in a lifetime, people don’t need visual aids and only need to use the naked eye.

Here’s how to watch the ZTF comet:

  • Find a place that is free from air pollution or away from excessive light
  • Make sure the field of view toward the sky is clear of obstructions when observing
  • Make sure the weather conditions at the observation site are bright enough
  • After making sure the field of view is free from obstructions, point your gaze to the northern sky close to the constellation Camelopardalis
  • Next, wait for comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) to pass.
