How to save oil and fuel for trucks without damaging the engine?

For obvious reasons, trucks consume more fuel and oil than cars.

Oil producers are trying to optimize this consumption by reducing operating costs and environmental impact. Thus, savings in lorries, as in passenger cars, are not only due to a sensible driving style, but also to the type of fuel and engine oil used.

One of the most modern products on the market, the so-called “fuel-saving” engine oil for trucks, is Rubia Tir 8900 FE 10W-30. This oil reduces the frictional resistance of diesel engines to such an extent that it reduces diesel fuel consumption. Due to the lower viscosity, the use of anti-wear additives and friction modifiers, the oil adequately protects all sensitive engine components and ensures their long service life. Such additives are activated in places where there is high pressure, such as on the camshaft lobes or on the piston ring and cylinder liner. If these additives were not used, but the viscosity of the oil would simply be reduced, the wear of these elements would increase. This is confirmed by tests performed on Mercedes engines OM 611, OM 646 and OM 501 LA.

It is worth mentioning that the first fuel-saving oils were created more than 20 years ago at the TotalEnergies research center. Since then, product formulas have evolved and now save 1.3% on fuel. In addition to FE (Fuel Eco) gear oils, savings in the gearbox and rear axle can be achieved by up to 3%, which corresponds to a fuel reduction of 1 liter per 100 kilometers for trucks. With an average mileage of 100,000 kilometers, it saves around 1,000 liters of diesel. In the case of a fleet of dozens of vehicles, the savings can be in the thousands of euros. By investing this money in FE oils, noticeable savings are guaranteed. The effectiveness of these products has been confirmed by tests performed on various makes of vehicles by well-known international organizations, such as the French company UTAC, the German Technical Inspection Association TÜV and the English car testing authority Millbrook.

One of the properties of engine oil is fuel economy, but that’s not all. Equally important is the optimal consumption of the oil itself and its replacement interval, which affects maintenance costs. The oil that meets these needs is Rubia Tir oil with ProEfficient technology. This type of oil has been approved by truck manufacturers for most vehicles of this type, from the most demanding EURO VI engines to conventional EURO III engines. ProEfficient technology, developed by TotalEnergies’ R&D team, protects and improves engine performance by reducing mechanical wear and extending drain intervals. This means longer engine life, less damage and lower maintenance costs. These oils are characterized by up to 81% less mechanical wear on the engine compared to ACEA E4 industry limits.

“Oils and fuels with the right additives can help save money. In the case of TotalEnergies, we provide this opportunity both by developing the chain of petrol stations in Poland and by offering a wide range of oils for trucks. It should be emphasized that in this case the savings do not require much effort, as they depend on the choice of a particular oil or fuel brand. For TotalEnergies Rubia oils, we offer three product lines using different technologies. Thanks to this, we can choose a product that meets the needs of each vehicle, ”says Robert Sadowski, TotalEnergies Polska.
