How to Save Money on Fuel: Tips and Tricks for Cheaper Prices

Gasoline is the word-ignition. In recent years, Poles have been complaining about very expensive fuel and it is hardly surprising. Today we pay about PLN 6.50 for a liter of petrol. What can I say: expensive.

Fuel companies made a fortune from Poles last year, and when the higher VAT rate on fuel returned, it jumped from 8 to 23 percent. since the beginning of the year — there has been no sharp jump in prices at stations. How is this possible? How he explained, among others Orlen, we bought more expensive fuel so that the subsequent increase would be smaller and prices would be stable. This is how the concern informed about the changes in “Rzeczpospolita”: “(…) the fact that fuel prices at Orlen stations have not changed as of January 1, despite the increase in VAT and excise duty, is in line with PKN Orlen’s policy of to avoid, as far as possible, price shocks, including those affecting consumers in particular.

This logic can be questioned, but in the end the prices were and are highand drivers often cannot afford such expensive fuel.

The corporations know this, but they are already used to huge profits, so – as is usually the case in such situations – turned their eyes towards marketing specialists. They came up with the idea to help citizens and introduce “promotions”. Appropriate mobile applications and loyalty programs with numerous discounts have been created.

The stations also tempt with other “extras”, such as vouchers for a car wash | Matt. own

We spend the same amount, but you will get either a car wash voucher or points that you can later exchange for some gadget, or – this is the best option – we just pay a little less for fuel.

Fuel is cheaper because it’s a holiday

Depending on the station, promotions last throughout the summer or end in July. And yes, “Summer Weekends” is a Circle K promotional campaign, where, as the name suggests, prices are lower only on weekends. Until September 3, we will buy fuel cheaper by PLN 0.35 per liter, and the condition for taking advantage of the promotion is having an Extra loyalty card.

The discount on Cirle K is calculated up to a maximum of 85 liters, and during the 24-hour period with the discount we can refuel only once.

Orlen introduced a promotion from June 30, which will last until August 31. The fuel is cheaper by PLN 0.30 per liter, and the promotion is available to members of the Vitay loyalty program. If we have a “large family card”, we will gain an additional 10 gr.

We tested different stations and poured 5-10 liters of petrol | Matt. own

The promotion lasts until the end of August, but it may end sooner, because the limit is 200 liters per month. The whole is broken down into four refuelings of 50 liters each. During the promotion, we can buy a maximum of 400 liters of fuel (two months).

BP has similar rules and also allows four refills of up to 50 liters each. The price reduction is the same as in Orlen: PLN 0.30 per liter. The discount also includes LPG and amounts to PLN 0.10. To take advantage, all you need is a Payback card, and the whole action lasts from June 30 to the end of August.

It is also cheaper at Shell if you have a card (or application) of the Shell ClubSmart program. The limit for one refueling is 60 liters here, and there is no limit to the number of refuelings. The promotion lasts until the end of the summer.

Theoretically, everything is clear. We download the application and after creating an account, we can get discounts. We will not influence the fact that petrol is so expensive, so we can at least take advantage of the fact that we will pay a little less during the holidays. However, it turns out – according to online posts – that mobile applications do not have any particular restrictions on setting up accounts. And that changes a lot.

There are ways to bypass the limitations of the fueling app

Internet users suggest that we can set up many accounts in the mobile application and, as a result, have many Orlen Vitay cards in your phone. I checked it and it really is as they say.

For testing, I registered the app with two different emails, then headed to the gas station to check it out see if I can use the same discount but with different accounts. It worked. I paid for 10 liters of petrol and got a discount of about PLN 3 (10 x 30 gr).

A few days later, I filled up at another Orlen station, using the same discount, but a different account — I also succeeded and saved another PLN 3 on 10 liters of petrol. I will add that I have activated the same discount.

Using the mobile application in such a way is quite cumbersome, because we have to log in once to one account and once to another account. If we set up more of these accounts, we will have to juggle with logins and passwords, but the savings can be very high.

Since, for example, Orlen limits the discount to 200 liters per month, which gives PLN 60 in savings, then having several accounts, we get a lot more “free gas”. And so, having 5 accounts, we can already save PLN 300 on fuel a month. This will be appreciated by people who are going on a long journey by car.

In short: the more we drive, the more we can save. In turn, just setting up accounts for the next and subsequent e-mails does not have to be burdensome. Just take advantage of temporary emails.

Is this an oversight on the part of the application developers, or a deliberate procedure? We asked Orlen and the answer from the concern is:

Pursuant to the regulations, a registered participant in the VITAY loyalty program may have only one main VITAY card or one virtual VITAY card at the same time in order to take advantage of the promotional offer at petrol stations. Violation of the regulations may result in the exclusion of the user from the program.

However, when we checked at the stations whether someone verifies individual accounts and applications, we have not encountered this type of practice even once. At one station, we can be logged in, for example, as Jan Kowalski, and at another as Karol Nowak. So Internet users are right: there are ways to take advantage of more discounts on cheaper fuel. Holidays, or at least commuting to specific locations, can be cheaper.
