Xbox has features to both take screenshots and record video of everything happening on the screen. By default, they are saved on the Xbox Network via the player’s Microsoft account, but they are no longer safe there. In a blog posts the other day Microsoft revealed that screenshots and screen recordings will now be deleted after 90 days.
Those who want to preserve their recordings must move them to a more permanent storage. Microsoft’s proposal is a new feature that makes it possible to set up automatic backups to OneDrive. Of course, this requires that there is sufficient space on the account, and standard free accounts only have 5 GB.
Another possibility is to save them to an external hard drive or a USB stick instead. The setting for it is in Profile and System -> Settings -> Settings -> Record and Sharebut you can also set a disk as the storage location Profile and system -> Settings -> System -> Storage devices.
PC gamers who use Windows’ built-in Xbox menu to save screenshots and screen recordings needn’t worry, as these are stored on the PC by default.
