Apple has updated the section with recommendations in case your smartphone falls into water or a liquid detection warning appears on the screen. There, among other things, separately mentionedthat the iPhone cannot be dried using rice.
So, many are sure that if you put a wet phone in a bowl of rice, the water will be absorbed and the smartphone will work again. However, in reality, you will only damage the internal components of the iPhone. For example, the starch contained in rice can penetrate the iPhone case and corrode the cables.
What not to do with a recessed iPhone:
- Do not dry iPhone using external heat or compressed air.
- Do not insert foreign objects, such as a cotton swab or paper towel, into the connector.
- Don’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Otherwise, small rice particles may damage your iPhone.
Instead, hold the iPhone in your hand with the port facing down. Tap the top of the device to shake off any water. After that, put it in a ventilated area and wait until it dries. This may take up to 30 minutes.
When immersed in water, the iPhone screen usually displays the message “Liquid detected. Charging unavailable…”. If after “drying” the yellow exclamation mark is still displayed on the screen, it means that moisture remains and you need to wait some more.
However, sometimes it happens that the exclamation mark does not disappear for a long time. This may be a system error – restart your iPhone and connect the charger. If iOS warns about liquid again, contact your service center.
