“How to Prevent Sleep Paralysis and Improve Your Sleep Quality”

Sleep paralysis becomes a problem when it occurs frequently and affects the quality of sleep. If you also face this disorder, here’s what you can do to prevent it!

Also known as sleep paralysis, sleep paralysis is a disorder in which the person is unable to move their muscles while waking from sleep, writes the NHS. Specifically, the person can open their eyes and become conscious, but cannot move or speak. This happens when the body is at rest but the brain is active.

Sometimes sleep paralysis is accompanied by a feeling of suffocation, pressure or hallucinations, meaning the person can see or hear things that are not there in reality. For example, you can have the impression that there is someone else in the room with you, even though you are alone.

It sounds pretty scary, but anyone can experience at least one such episode, especially people who suffer from insomnia, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and/or panic attacks. Fortunately, episodes of sleep paralysis can last a few seconds to a few minutes and can be prevented.

What solutions do you have?

If sleep paralysis is taking over your life – for example, if episodes of paralysis recur frequently, if you dread going to bed, or if you feel tired during the day because you don’t get enough sleep at night, there are some things to which you can do.

For example, avoid sleeping on your back, give up eating heavy food at dinner and energy drinks, avoid extreme fatigue and excessive use of certain drugs, such as sleeping pills and drugs containing valerian!

Also, make a schedule for waking up and going to bed! Go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time every morning!

If your sleep paralysis episodes don’t go away, talk to your doctor! They can also occur in case of hypoglycemia, hypoxia, narcolepsy, mental disorders, but also due to genetics.
