How to permanently fix drift of Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons

Solution suggested by YouTube channel seems to be efficient but violates warranty

Canal VK’s Channel do YouTube released yesterday (13) a 10-minute video that has already reached over 29,000 views identifying the root cause of Joycons drift problem, which has become one of the main nightmares and the owners of Nintendo Switch and which also affects, but to a lesser degree, the Lite version of the console of Nintendo.

The solution that apparently permanently solves the problem implies disassemble the Joycons, what violates the guarantee of Nintendo making it impossible to change the controls by activating the program that replaces joycons with new models at no cost.

However, considering that the replacement program does not guarantee that new models will be the same as those sent for warranty, the solution can guarantee that your exclusive version of Joycons de The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword HD Edition which will be released next Friday (16) will eventually be replaced by a pair of standard gray controls.

In your channel, the user VK’s Channel, which so far has only this single video, describes the process in detail, even pointing to the joycons design failure point, comparing with analog from other consoles that do not have the same problem.

Apparently, the accumulation of dust and solid particles is not the main cause of drift, but only a symptom or aggravating analog drift both standard and fixed version of Nintendo Switch Lite joycons, and possibly, of the controls to come with the new Nintendo OLED Switch, but it’s not possible to be sure until the console hits the market in October.

O contact that makes up the analog system has a one-piece metal part which, with use, ends getting looser, by itself already presenting the drift that ends aggravated by the accumulation of dust and solid particles such as animal hair. Because it is not fixed in the set, stuck in the system only by pressure, increasing this pressure at the point of failure solves the drift issue, ensuring that the contacts are always at the optimal activation distance.

The solution suggested by the YouTube channel owner is add an approximately 1mm piece of paper between the analog and the control housing, keeping the pressure on the analog system constant and preventing the metal from deforming and moving away from the contacts.

It is important to remember that the solution, as well as any other that implies opening the Joycons, violates Nintendo’s warranty terms and invalidates the replacement of the controls due to drift or any other type of repair that would eventually be covered by Nintendo.

Thus, if your controls are the default template gray or blue/neon red, or you don’t feel safe opening the controls, O more suitable is to send for assistance, but it’s fine likely that the drift will reoccur over time because it is essentially a design flaw.

For control owners with Nintendo’s own or custom carcasses, the method, despite invalidating the warranty, at least promises a long-term solution and the certainty that you will be able to continue having fun with your favorite joycon model.
