What is the program about HERricane NYC?
NYC Emergency Management invites New York City high school students to participate in inaugural program HERricane NYC designed to encourage young women in grades 9-12 to pursue careers and leadership roles in emergency management.
How does the program work?
The program consists of a one-week session from April 18, 2022 to April 22, 2022 that will take place at the NYC Emergency Management headquarters in Brooklyn. NYC Emergency Management intends to select up to 20 students to participate in the 2022 program.
How much does the program cost?
There is no cost for students to participate in the program. Upon completion of the program, participants will have the option to attend monthly “after” sessions for the remainder of the year.
Who meets the criteria to participate in the program?
The program is open to women in grades 9-12 who live and are enrolled in high school in all five boroughs.
NOTE: NYC Emergency Management includes all women, including transgender and cisgender women, and non-binary people. NYC Emergency Management encourages all women to apply for the program.
How can I apply for the program?
Interested students can apply by submitting the application form and the student’s responses to the essay questions listed on the form. The application form must be signed by the student and, if the student is under the age of 18, the application form must be signed by the student’s parent/guardian. All entries must be sent to [email protected] with the matter “HERricane NYC”. All entries must be submitted by March 14, 2022.
What are the important application dates?
- March 14, 2022: All entries must be submitted via email by 11:59pm on Monday, March 14, 2022.
- March 18, 2022: winners will be notified at 12:00 pm on Friday, March 18, 2022.
- April 18 to April 22, 2022: HERricane NYC will be held at the NYC Emergency Management headquarters.
