TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Too frequent impact on screen (screen time) when children have to do distance learning is a phenomenon of Computer Vision Syndrome. This problem can make the child experience an increase in refraction, such as eye minus and cylinder progressively.
One way to deal with minus eye is the use of glasses or lasik. However, LASIK is not recommended for children under 19 years of age.
Andri Agus Syah, an eye and ortho K specialist at VIO Optical Clinic, said there are other alternatives to treat eye minus, one of which is orthokeratology (Ortho K) contact lens therapy. This therapy aims to reshape the patient’s cornea, which was previously irregular, to become naturally rounded again.

“Ortho K therapy can be a solution mata minus children who rose steadily from year to year. The process is natural, safe, and has been FDA Approved. Although relatively new to Indonesia, this method has been in practice for more than a decade in the United States. Orthokeratology is said to be safe and has a high success rate in reducing and inhibiting the minus rate.
“There are several studies in America that show this Ortho K has successful rate which is high in slowing down the minus rate. So it is suitable for parents who want their children to be separated spectacles. Even adults can join this therapy, but of course they have to do an initial screening first, “added Weni Puspitasari, an eye specialist at the VIO Optical Clinic.
