Amid the corona virus pandemic and social restrictions, people are more likely to choose to stay at home. The trend of home activities is said to increase by 10 percent during this new normal transition period.

Some activities at home often have the potential to cause burns. Call it cooking or making cakes, mix coffee or tea, take a warm bath or dry your hair using a hair dryer.

The most common causes of burns include fire, heat, electricity and chemicals. Different causes and rates of burns also affect treatment.

“Unfortunately, people are often mistaken in their actions to deal with minor burns while at home. Like, applying soy sauce and toothpaste,” explained Sandi in a written statement received CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (7/22).

The move, according to Sandi, would actually worsen burns and increase the chance of infection and cause scarring.

“Safe and effective treatment at home for minor burns is to wash the affected area with running water for 10-20 minutes. Then apply a thin burn ointment with a thickness of about 1 mm, every 4 to 6 hours,” said Password advises.

Therefore, it is important for the community to ensure that there are supplies of burn ointments in the medicine box at home. Sandi added, ointments to treat burns should have ingredients that function as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial so that it can help regenerate new skin tissue.

The following stages are safe as first aid when experiencing burns.

1. Use cold water to compress or rinse parts that feel hot.

2. If bubbles arise, it should be left alone. Avoid covering it with tape, including trying to break it with a needle.

3. Apply a special ointment for burns or antibiotic-containing ointments neomycin sulfate and neomycin which generally has a cold effect.

The three ways above you can use as a first treatment when minor burns occur. But if the burn is included in the category of weight, especially if it has reached the bone, you should immediately go to the Emergency Department (IGD) to get appropriate and intensive treatment.
