How to Make Phone and Video Calls on WhatsApp Desktop

WhatsApp will add WhatsApp group voice and video calling features to the desktop

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – There are several ways to talk with contacts WhatsApp on your desktop or PC. One of them is through the special WhatsApp application for desktops, while the other is an Android emulator.

For the WhatsApp desktop app, the company recently rolled out a voice and video calling feature to its nearly five year old desktop app. This application only supports encrypted voice and video calls end-to-end for individual calls or one to-one for now.

According to reports, WhatsApp will add WhatsApp group voice and video calling features to the desktop.

Reporting from 91mobiles, Sunday (7/3), there is a way to make voice calls using the WhatsApp desktop application.

Download and install the WhatsApp desktop application on your Windows laptop / PC or Mac

Open the app and scan the QR code using a smartphone. Don’t worry, you won’t be logged out of the WhatsApp account on your phone.

If you don’t know how to scan a QR code? Launch WhatsApp on your phone, then tap on the three dots icon in the top right corner and select WhatsApp Web (iOS users, go to ‘Settings’). Point your phone camera at the desktop screen to scan the QR code /

Once connected, open any WhatsApp chat and look for the voice call icon.

Click above and allow WhatsApp to access the computer microphone to talk to your contact from the desktop.

Then the way to make a WhatsApp video call on a laptop is to make a video call to a WhatsApp contact using the desktop application, almost the same as making a voice call. After entering the WhatsApp desktop application, open a chat and select the video call icon.

Allow the computer to access the webcam and microphone, and your call will be made. Remember a person can only call one WhatsApp contact at a time. A small window, showing the status of the call will appear on your screen. You can drag around the window anywhere on the screen and use its options to hang up, divert calls from video to voice or vice versa and adjust the settings. The chat feature will remain active even when you are on a call.

To keep in mind, group voice and video calling features via the WhatsApp desktop application are not yet available. It doesn’t matter whether your mobile number has an active package or not. As long as your phone and desktop are connected to the active internet, you will be able to make or receive WhatsApp voice and video calls using your laptop or Windows PC and Apple Mac.

Another method that was mentioned earlier is the Android emulator. Unlike the WhatsApp desktop application, users can also carry out group voice chats using this tool. In fact, the Android emulator offers the same WhatsApp experience that users get on the mobile app.

The only downside of this tool is that social messaging doesn’t have multi-device support yet. The user will log out of the smartphone as soon as they log into WhatsApp on the desktop using the emulator. In the process, the user may lose some data.

Here’s how to make WhatsApp voice and video calls on PC. After downloading the Android emulator-Bluestacks, for example- on your PC, open the Play Store and download WhatsApp.

Open WhatsApp and log in with your mobile number, just as you would on your smartphone. After the setup is done, open the chat or group and tap on the voice call as well as video call icon from the top panel.

Allow the computer to access the microphone or webcam, if needed. Now you can talk to your WhatsApp contacts from the desktop.
