What are the limits on Instagram?
Limits is an improved version of Instagram limits. The feature will help you to temporarily restrict comments and spam messages. It may seem identical to limiting, but it can handle bullying of groups rather than individuals.
When you’re building a personal brand, marketing on Instagram, or have an account with a large following, there’s no way to counter spam with the blocking feature. After all, you want to increase your reach through your Instagram account. This is where Instagram’s limit feature comes in and helps you fight spam without impacting growth.

How to use limits on Instagram
The Limits feature is located at the bottom of the Instagram settings menu. Here’s how you can access and use it.
Use: Instagram for iOS and Android have the same interface. We will be using the Instagram app for iOS in the screenshots below, and you can follow the same on Instagram for Android.
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your phone.

Step 2: Go to your account from the bottom right corner.
Step 3: Tap the hamburger menu in the top right corner and select Settings from the menu that appears.
Step 4: In Settings, select Privacy and choose Limits.
Step 5: You have the option to limit recent followers and accounts that don’t follow you. Make sure you enable both switches and select the Enable button at the bottom.
After that, Instagram will temporarily restrict spam messages and comments on your account and hide them until you approve the selected posts.
How to set the duration limit
There is no need to keep Instagram limits enabled all the time. You may miss important messages or comments. Fortunately, Instagram offers an option to remind you to turn off limits after a specified amount of time.
Step 1: Open Instagram settings (see previous steps).
Step 2: Go to the Privacy menu and tap Limits.
Step 3: Check the “Limit by” menu and tap on it. You can select up to four weeks or six days to get a reminder.
After the selected period, Instagram will remind you to disable the limits.
Hide requests for messages and comments with offensive words on Instagram
Even with Instagram limits enabled, some may find a way to spoil your mood by posting abusive comments and messages. Instagram offers another way to combat such scenarios.
Instagram has a menu dedicated to hidden words in the settings that automatically filters comments and posts with offensive words. The company has worked with several anti-discrimination and harassment organizations to develop a list of offensive terms to filter direct messages and comments. Here’s how you can use them.
Step 1: Open the Instagram Settings (see screenshot in the first section).
Step 2: Choose the Privacy option and tap Hidden Words.
Step 3: Enable Hide Comments, Advanced Comments Filter, and Hide Message Requests.
After enabling the options, Instagram will hide comments and message requests with offensive words in the hidden folder. The company will also filter the notifications of these messages. You can always review and view those comments and review messages.
Create custom words and phrases to hide on Instagram
Instagram may not limit offensive words in your native language. However, you can create a custom list with words and phrases to limit messages.
Step 1: Open the hidden words menu in Instagram (see screenshot above).

Step 2: Scroll down to the Custom Words and Phrases menu.
Step 3: Tap the Manage list.
Step 4: Add the words you want to filter separated by commas.
You can add more words, phrases and emojis. You can always update the list at any time.
