Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Signs that our cellphone has been tapped by a stalking application can be seen easily, we can even check it ourselves. A report shows several signs that cellphones have been infected by stalkeware or spouseware applications.

Newsweek warned that the signs mentioned could also be other indications. So it’s not necessarily related to stalker apps.

The use of this spy application is actually quite popular. VPNOverview notes that there has been an increase of 60% over the last few years, mostly used by users who are going through a divorce as well as parents to monitor their children.

However, stalking apps can also lead to privacy violations. The application can peek at web searches, location, SMS, photos and phone calls.

Entering this application on someone’s cellphone is very easy, as long as they have physical access to the device. Its existence is also hidden and there is no need to ask the cellphone owner’s permission.

“Spyware attacks are becoming increasingly common as technology becomes more accessible to the general public,” said VPNOverview founder David Janssen.

Here are 10 signs that there is a stalker application on our cellphone, according to the VPNOverview report, quoted from Newsweek, Tuesday (9/1/2024):

  • Random reboot
  • Slow performance
  • Strange text messages
  • HP temperature is too hot
  • Excessive data usage
  • Foreign applications in the application list
  • Battery drains quickly
  • It took a long time to shut down
  • Strange sound when calling
  • Activity alert in standby mode
  • Meanwhile, if you find a spyware application on your cellphone, you can immediately delete or uninstall it. The method is exactly the same as deleting other applications that you no longer use.

But if you don’t find the app and suspect there’s spyware on your phone, VPNOverview says to install antivirus software. The system scans for spyware and immediately removes it.

To protect yourself from becoming a victim of spyware, VPNOverview experts remind you not to trust anyone with your cell phone. You also need to protect it with a password, facial recognition, or fingerprint.
