The connected home allows us to have everything that happens at home under constant surveillance, even when we are away. But not just for us, but for example on iOS and with HomeKit we can involve other users. Just invite them to be part of our smart home.
In the “Home” application which is preinstalled on devices with iOS and iPadOS, we can configure all the settings that we deem necessary if we have elements integrated into the smart home. How to invite someone to control your home
Invite someone to be part of our house connected is something simple that only takes a few steps and people accept our proposal. And everything is done via the “Home” application.
Everything happens to access the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and open the “Home” application. In the app we need to tap on the icon that appears in the upper left corner.
If there are different houses configured in the “House” application, you must click on “Home settings” then tap the house you want to invite someone to.
You have already entered your home settings and now you should be looking at the section “People” and inside, click on “Invite people”. You can use one of those you already have in your family or add to another by entering the Apple ID the person uses with iCloud.
At this point, you just need to click “Send an invitation” and it will be the other person who will have to confirm said invitation. When I accept you will see how it stops appearing with the text “Invitation pending”.
How to accept the invitation
When someone invites you to be part of their connected home through the Home app and HomeKit, you will receive a notification in the Home app on your iOS device. At this point, you need to go to the “Home” app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and click on “Home Settings”.
In this section you will see the invitation and all you have to do is “Accept” then press “OK”After accepting the invitation, tap, then tap the name of the house to control it.
Allow remote access and create user permissions
With the invited person (s), touch manage remote access and change permissions of the people they have to control the various devices in your home.
You can give permission so they can control the accessories while they are at home, connected to your home Wi-Fi network and within range of HomeKit accessories, but also when they are away from home.
To be able to manage remote access and modify a user’s permissions, You must access the “Home” application from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and click the name of the person whose permissions you want to change. You can choose to allow the following operations:
“Control accessories remotely”– They can therefore control the accessories from any location. If it is not active, they will not have control until they are in your house.
“Add and modify accessories”: This way you allow users to add and remove props, scenes, automations as well as remove other users.
With these steps, you can invite other people to be part of your smart home and manage the permissions they have on all connected devices.
