How to Invest in Pfandbriefe: Attractive Bonds for Private Investors

Recently, only institutional investors – and the ECB – have bought Pfandbriefe. With the return of interest rates, worry-free bonds are also attractive again for private investors

Sascha Kullig primarily deals with institutional investors. But in addition to insurers and pension funds, he has also been targeting private investors for a few months now. “Our approach to investors is changing,” says the head of capital market business at the Association of German Pfandbrief Banks (VDP). The association is increasingly recruiting self-decision makers looking for a relatively safe investment with adequate returns: At the beginning of January, Commerzbank, for example, brought a mortgage-backed Pfandbrief onto the market that offers 2.75 percent annual interest. Investors start from 1000 euros. The stake will be repaid after three years.
