Fortnite is back on iOS! It’s now official, but the process is more tedious than it seems. In fact, since the game is no longer available on the App Store, you have to go to an external site…
It’s a big day for the mobile app development industry. As of Friday, Fortnite is once again available on iPhone and iPad, more than four years after Apple removed the app.
Fortnite’s return to iPhone is big news for Epic Games, but also for players. It’s one of the most popular games in the world, and has been since its official launch in 2017. Since then, the title has never experienced a drop in audience, and its return to iPhone will allow Epic Games to build even more loyalty among its audience.
But contrary to what one might believe, this is not the return of Fortnite to the App Store per se. Indeed, Fortnite remains banned from the App Store, as does Epic’s developer account. On the other hand, it is the DMA that forces Apple to authorize the downloading of third-party app stores, outside the App Store. So, to play Fortnite again, you will have to download the Epic Games Store.
To do this, you must first go to the application site from the Epic Games Store from your iPhone. Then tap Install on iOSthen on Installer in the new page that opens. Normally, you should have an error message, indicating that “The installation settings on this iPhone do not allow you to install apps created by Epic Games Inc., directly from the web. You can change this in the settings”.
That’s exactly what we’re going to do, because as soon as you open the iPhone Settings app, you’ll find a new tab at the top of the screen called Allow apps made by Epic Games Inc. Tap it, read Apple’s warnings if you want, then tap Authorize.
Then come back to le site d’Epic Gamespress Installer. You will then get a pop-up from iOS telling you that the developer wants to install an online app marketplace. Apple wants, once again, to discourage the user from bypassing the App Store. Ignore this message by tapping Install the online app marketplace.
After a short wait, you will return to the home screen, but you will still normally not find the Epic Games Store app. This is also a workaround from Apple, which hides these external applications from the home page. So swipe down on the screen, and in the Search bar, search for Epic. The app will appear, hold your finger on the app icon and tap On the home screen.
Then open the newly installed app. You will find three first games adapted for mobile, namely Fall Guys, Rocket League Side Swipe and … Fortnite. Tap Installerthen after yet another iOS pop-up appears, tap Installer l’app. Here too, the application will not appear on the home screen, you will have to search for it.
