JAKARTA, Waspada.co.id – People in Indonesia are facing scorching hot weather. In the midst of sweltering hot weather, air pollution also remains bad. As a result, it can cause the body’s immune system to decrease.
When someone experiences a decrease in their immune system, the symptom that is often encountered is coughing. When people cough, people often only treat the cough.
In fact, people must increase their immune system. This is to speed up recovery and also prevent the emergence of more serious illnesses.
Moreover, coughing can cause 93 percent of sufferers to have difficulty sleeping, work productivity will be reduced by up to 26 percent, and the tendency to be absent from activities, whether school or work, can be reduced by up to 45 percent. This proves that coughing really interferes with our daily activities.
Digital Content Creator for Health Education dr. Farhan Zubedi explained that coughing is a normal reflex of the body’s defense, with the aim of clearing the airways of foreign particles, germs and viruses. However, coughing is also a symptom of inflammation or respiratory infection, where the role of the cough is to expel excessive mucus.
“Triggers for coughing can be bacterial or viral infections, asthma/allergies, air pollution, smoking habits, drug consumption, and decreased immune system,” said Dr Farhan Zubedi.
“When a cough occurs, our body’s immune system will work actively to fight bacteria or viruses. “These bacteria or viruses can trigger inflammation in the respiratory tract,” he explained.
For this reason, before the cough becomes more annoying, Dr. Farhan suggests preventing more serious illnesses by using cough medicine which not only relieves the cough but also increases the body’s endurance.
“By increasing the body’s resistance when sick, it will speed up recovery so that coughing is not prolonged and also prevent the emergence of more serious illnesses,” he explained. (wol/okezone/eko/d2)
