How to get from New York JFK airport to Brooklyn?

Arriving at New York JFK Airport and looking for the best way to get to your hotel or accommodation in Brooklyn? Here are the 3 means of transport available to you:

1 / The AirTrain and the metro

  • The cheapest solution is to take the AirTrain, a skytrain that connects the JFK airport terminals with 2 underground stations in the Queens district. Depending on your destination, you have 2 options: either take the AirTrain to reach Howard Beach JFK Airport station, on line A, or take the AirTrain towards Jamaica Center station, on lines E, J and Z. The one-way ticket costs $ 5 and you can purchase your trip at the automatic terminals.
  • Note that you will also need to purchase a metro ticket to continue your journey from Howard Beach JFK Airport and Jamaica Center stations. Count $ 2.75 per trip. In total, this solution will cost you $ 7.75 per person.
  • You should know, however, that while the metro is the cheapest option, it is far from the most practical. Outside of the AirTrain, you’ll find that very few Brooklyn subway stations have elevators or escalators. You will therefore find yourself having to lug your suitcases up and down the stairs… Sporty!

2 / Taxi or VTC

  • More comfortable than the metro, the transfer by taxi or VTC is also much faster. But it is obviously more expensive.
  • Unlike airport transfers to Manhattan, the price of taxi rides between JFK Airport and Brooklyn is not fixed: the price is dictated by the meter. Depending on the traffic and your destination, the total will be around $ 60 to $ 70, including tip.
  • Note that the price is similar in VTC. For the same price, I therefore advise you to take an official taxi, much better supervised from a legal point of view. This will prevent you from being ripped off by VTC drivers who will possibly lengthen the race …

3 / Transfer by private car with driver

  • Last possibility: transfer by private car. The advantage compared to the taxi or the VTC: this formula is completely personalized and it can be booked in advance, in French and in euros. Go to the Private Car with Driver Transfers page for the one-way JFK-Brooklyn transfer. For a transfer in the Brooklyn-JFK direction, go to the return transfers by private car page.
  • You can precisely choose your vehicle, depending on the number of people or your needs. You can order a sedan if you are 3, a minivan if you are 6 maximum or a minibus if you are a small group of 14 people. You can even opt for a 7-person limo if you want to think of yourself as movie stars. You choose !
  • In any case, the driver will be waiting for you at the exit of the baggage hall with a sign with your name and you will board directly in the vehicle of your choice.

And the shared shuttles?

  • By browsing our section dedicated to airport transfers in New York, you will see that there are also shared shuttles, a transfer service between New York JFK airport and Manhattan. Please note: the shared shuttles do not serve Brooklyn! So you cannot take them to go from JFK to an address in Brooklyn.
  • However, nothing prevents you from booking a shared shuttle by asking to be dropped off in front of a Manhattan hotel near a subway station. From there, you can continue by subway to Brooklyn. However, this technique is far from being the fastest. To be seen on a case-by-case basis, depending on your arrival destination!
